Well well, what do we have here? It seems as though Toshiba has announced a single flash memory chip that can handle a whopping 64GB! This is great news!
Now, as you know, Apple uses Toshiba for it’s iPhone and iPod touch flash memory needs. Also, Apple consumes 25% of the planet’s flash memory! So why would Toshiba say no to Apple?
Also, it’s also known that Apple gets hardware in advance to the rest of the world. So with this said, it seems very likely that we will see this.
Also, the next gen iPod touch could hold up to 128GB! This would eliminate the need for an iPod Classic.
Also, on a side note, I keep getting asked “Alan, what do you think will happen to the click wheel iPods?”. According to my projections, and internal plans by Apple (and their strategies), I only expect the click wheel iPods to exist for 2 more generations.
It’s sad to say, but truely, the click wheel iPod’s destiny was sealed back in about 2000 (when the iPod was still being developed). Apple’s major product line is only destined as a 10 year strategy. This is for everything!
As you may recall, Steve even said that Mac OS X was a “10 year strategy that will take Apple through the decade”. Also expect this to happen with the iPhone, and the iPhone OS. iPhone OS X will be a new beast, something completely different than we know today.
So there you go guys, here’s just a little glimpse into the future.
