Well Windows users, you now have a 3.1 & 3.1.2 jailbreak! blackra1n is not an unlock solution! If you have an unlocked iPhone 3G/3G S, do not use blackra1n! Blackra1n is more like a redsn0w tool/quickpwn and will not preserve your unlock. So you must continue to wait for the iPhone Dev Team’s solutions.
Blackra1n is made by GeoHot (The world’s first iPhone unlocker, he made a hardware unlock with a 1st gen iPhone back in August of 2007!) This is a “30 second jailbreak”.
Also, blackra1n DOES NOT HACKTIVATE! If you are not on AT&T or any of Apple’s approved carriers, don’t bother with this. Keep using the Pwnage Tool from the iPhone Dev Team!
Again, this is a Windows only solution, so us Mac OS X/Unlocked iPhone users are still out of luck for a 3.1.2 jailbreak/unlock!
This works on all devices! Including the iPhone 3G S and the iPod touch G3! However, the iPod touch G3’s jailbreak is tethered! Which means, if you need to reboot, you must re-run blackra1n to reboot, if you are an iPod touch 2G user, you will recall this process.
So there you go. If you are a Windows user with AT&T and no desire to ever unlock, go ahead and use blackra1n!

I have a jailbroken Iphone 3Gs with 3.01 I want to know if I use iTunes to update my legal, phone to 3.1.2 I know I can activate it afterwards but can I use blackra1n to jailbreak it or will I lose the feature to break it as the baseband will change? And u can’t ever revert back from 3.1.2 I’ve been told
Ian it will not activate your phone. You have to upgrade to 3.1.2 and activate your phone. If you need your phone to be unlocked to use on other carriers do not upgrade your phone through iTunes.
So if I upgrade to 3.1.2 and actavate it through iTunes (I’m not bothered about other networks) I’ll be able to rejail it again with blackrain

That’s right Ian and there is also a way been found to downgrade the baseband.
Everybody thinks you are stuck with 5.x baseband. All you have to do is manually restore a 3.0 firmware thru itunes. when it is almost finished restoring you will get an error message. close itunes, open quickpwn and it will tell you to hold power and home on your device for 15 seconds then power for 2 sec. Once done, close quikpwn. Jailbreak with redsnow using your 3.0 firmware and you are back in biz. download fuzzyband from cydia and downgrade your baseband, download ultra snow, now you are unlocked and jailbroken.

my phone is already JB how do i get the blackra1n on my phone to upgrade to the newest 3.1.2 do i need to restore to factory settings and then upgrade on itunes and then use blackra1n
if u do not want to unlock your phone… You can upgrade if phone on ur iTunes to 3.1.2… Then download blackra1n… And Make it rain…

Just to say… I’ve updated my iphone3gs from 3.01>3.1.2 with blackra1n – guess what, it works it’s JB again trust gehot to beat the dev team at this! I’m suprised.
