Here you go everyone! The iPhone Dev Team has just released an updated Pwnage Tool that supports all devices, except the iPod touch G3.
This will only work if your iPod touch 2G/iPhone 3G S was pwned at 3.0/3.0.1. If your device came out of the box with 3.1, you’re screwed. It won’t work.
So download it now!

Alrigjt everyone. This is for Mac OS X only. No a Pwnage Tool for Windows won’t ever come out.
You must make a custom firmware for your device and restore with the custom firmware in iTunes.
Again, no this isn’t for the iPod touch that just came out.
Yes, it sucks, but Mac OS X is easier to develop this kind of stuff than in Windows OS.

*Warning! – You must have a Iphone 3GS on 3.0 or 3.0.1 and it must be jailbroken using any method.
Step 1.) Download the custom made .IPSW firmware file (Custom Pwnagetool boot logo, cydia and icy are included, your baseband is preserved for unlocking 4.26.08 – http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JOS7A4IT
Step 2.) Open Itunes and connect your Iphone in recovery mode (NOT DFU) -
To enter recovery mode
A.) Make sure your phone is unplugged from USB, and power it off.
B.) Hold down the home button and plug into USB.
C.) Continue holding down the home button until Itunes finds your phone in recovery mode.
Step 3.) Hold shift and click on restore in Itunes which will bring up a browse window. Select the .ipsw your downloaded in step 1 and click open.
Step 4.) Let Itunes do its thing and your phone should reboot into a jailbroken 3.1 with cydia and icy installed.

Bigparte: no. It won’t. You have to build your own, the one mentioned above is for the iPhone 3G S only! Download the Pwnage Tool, (blog.iphone-dev.org) and then build your own firmware, then follow steps 2 -> 4.

I now have 3.1 jailbroken 3gs… Everything worked great!! I don’t see why pwnage tool won’t work on 3G…
by the way… you don’t have to do all those steps mentioned above by mike on an already jailbroken 3.0 3gs trying to upgrade to 3.1 custome firmware… Just plug in… And click built…
Just to be sure: The file Miike links in his post can be used on any already jailbroken 3gs using the instructions? Or the custom firmware need be made specific from my phone? Thx

no it won’t work on vista… so far only mac computers…
to get iPhone 3.1 jailbroken u need the following requirements…
1. Ur 3GS needs to be jailbroken at 3.0 or 3.0.1 if your phone was already updated through iTunes to 3.1 or u purchased a 3.1 iPhone you are out of luck… Wait till the next jailbreak “if they come out with one”
2. Download pwnage tool 3.1.3 on your mac computer
3. Download the firmware iphone1,2_3.1_7C144_Restore_Custom.ipsw (you need it to create your own firmware)
4. Latest version of iTunes 9.0.1
when you’re done creating an custom firmware (.ipsw) then restore your phone with iTunes (mac users only) by press and holding the option button and click restore. Look for the firmware u created it’s usually default saved on your desktop… Then let the magic do it’s job… You don’t need to do all that DFU or recovery modes thingy..
If anyone wants to, take the latest release of winpwn which is like iPhone 3g 2.0fw and add the bundles from pwnagetool and maybe with a lil fiddling you could get it to work…..
But it’s easier to go find a custom ipsw that works for you
Hey Mike, in step ( 3.)(C.) of your steps to Jailbreak the 3GS, it should read “Hold Option and click on Restore in iTunes…”. Holding Shift and clicking on Restore doesn’t work, at least on my Mac…
