UPDATE: I can confirm that this works on the iPod touch 2G, thanks Nile!
Yes everyone, thanks to Limited Edition iPhone’s own Mike (he emailed me a video he took on his 3G S to my iPhone 3G) I was able to confirm a feature I had uncovered in the OS.
Now, have someone email you a .mp4, .mov, or whatever (as long as the iPhone can view it in Mail) and download the video by tapping on it.
Then, when the video is downloaded by Mail, tap and hold on the video. Now a “Save Video” option should pop up.
Hit “Save Video” and go to your Photos app, then camera roll. Now you should see the video!
The best part of all is that you can EDIT THE VIDEO!!! The iPhone 3G S’ video editing features are now on the iPhone 3G! So take a look and test it out! Enjoy!
(I have not confirmed whether this works on any generation of the iPod touch or the iPhone 2G, as I do not have either, just an iPhone 3G)

Confirmed: works on 2G as well!
Peter: Sweet! Sounds good! I’ll update my article.
Cool!
The screenshots are taken with 3gs, but you only have a 3g??
The 3g can’t display battery percentage, only the 3gs can..
Or is it jailbroken?
Yes alan’s iphone is jailbroken and he has the battery percentage, the screenshots are on his iphone 3g
Jakob: Yep. I have an iPhone 3G. Its jailbroken. All the 3G S has that the iPhone 3G doesn’t (battery percentage wise) is a small string of code in a .plist in Springboard.app.
I just added gas-gauge-battery to my N82AP.plist and set it to true and bam! Battery indicator!
I found this back in iPhone OS 3.0 beta 2, lol.
I’ve had this before any iPhone 3G S did.
I also name my iPhone 3G as “Alan’s iPhone 3G S” because I’ve basically made it into a 3G S.
I have video, editing, battery indicators, and I’m working on Nike , & Voice Control. (or course a compass is not possible)
I don’t get why the iPhone doesn’t get the Nike of all things, even the iPods updated to 3.0 get them. U could just use sbsettings for the battery % thing. Oh and all iPods get the save video feature too, checked on YouTube. I hope someone creates a video enabled camera.app hack or at least a camera-roll merged cycorder for the 3g and below.
JumpShooter34: Not true. The iPod touch 1G doesn’t even have the compatable harware to support Nike .
I agree, the iPhone 2G and 3G are Nike compatable. They have the appropriate bluetooth chip.
Yes, but the SBSettings version is different. That uses a different (non-native 3G S method). I prefer the Apple version.
Yes, I confirmed that shortly after I posted this.
Actually, lol, funny you say that. I am running an un-released videorecorder3g/cycorder Video hack. It takes video via the apps, then you turn the “Video Toggle” on in SBSettings, and you get the video editing features on the videos you took.
I’ve been lazy, so I haven’t typed up a how-to.
sorry.
I will soon when we… Uh… Finish… uh… Some… Stuff,
They took video editing away…. Can’t get it to work on my phone
Get It Right: This is an iPhone OS 3.1 feature that has been built into EVERY 3.1/3.1.1 out there today. Also, you can only “save video” and “edit video” if the video format you are trying to save is supported by the iPhone OS. (mp4, mov, etc.)
Nope they took it away…. Just restored my phn it doesn’t work now
Is there an app that lets you text the saved video on a 3G. The video is in my camera roll but I can not text it.
I have 3GS, and when I Save Video from Messages, it shows up as default thumbnail for Camera Roll, but it doesn’t appear in the actual album. Any ideas?
I had some videos sent to me via text and I was able to view them and save them. But, they are not saving to my Camera Roll. Where are they???
