Fake iPhone OS 2.2.1 Image Appears

November 30th, 2008 · 2 Comments · iPhone

Hey guys, don’t believe everything that is on the internet. This image that popped up this morning, claiming that they had the first beta of firmware 2.2.1, and it is believed to be fake. Please note that this image is very easy to fake. Now besides the fact that people might be lying to us again, look at the image closely. There are badges ontop of the Calendar and the Notes icons.

What am I getting at? Well, how about “where the hell is the push notification service?!” Do you guys recall this? It was announced at WWDC, almost 12 months ago. They promised this feature when 2.1 rolled around, we are at November 30th, firmware 2.2, and still no push notification service.

This is hurting Apple’s potential sales and the potential of IM and social networking clients such as Facebook and Twitter. I wouldn’t be surprised if Steve made no mention as to this at WWDC in January. Steve Jobs and other high ranking Apple executives were asked about this and they got the same answer. “We are working on it, we have to get it ready for the masses”. This is unacceptable. I understand that they don’t want a repeat at the failure of firmwares 2.0-2.0.2 and MobileMe, but come on, this is ridiculous. I hope Steve mentions it at WWDC. We will be watching…

IMO I would rather them do it right instead of releasing something halfass (read: 2.0). Just my 2c.

Yeah. That’s true. We don’t want a repeat of 2.0-2.0.2. 😀 That was horrible. I wonder what went wrong. The 2.0 betas were perfect, what the hell did they do to the firmware? When I had 1.2 and 2.0 betas, I thought it was excellent, then I go to 2.0 gold master, and it sucked. Crashes, etc.

I think that it is their new Kernel and the new ‘security” features. The new Kernel is constantly checking for data signatures, so I think that this makes for a laggy experience. I miss iPhone OS 1.x.x
