Hey guys, boy were we fooled. We all thought that iPhone OS 2.2 would come sometime near the Christmas season, but today I got a few hot tips from some of my very reliable sources, stating that iPhone OS 2.2 (gold master) will be available via iTunes as a free update on November 21st!

I have no further information of any new features besides the ones I reported on a few days ago, but you still have to remember who we are talking about…. Apple! They always seem to throw something in there that none of us even knew that we wanted. That’s what they are very good at. So guys, I’ll keep you informed as new information comes in…

UPDATE: iPhone 3G is officially the number 1 phone in the United States! Official numbers indicate that the iPhone is now the absolute biggest seller here in the U.S.

Yes everyone, the day has come and Apple is surely celebrating right about now. Apple Inc.’s iPhone 3G has just surpassed Motorola’s RAZR in sales here in the US. During this 3rd quarter, Apple took down Motorola’s 12 quarter streak, NPD reports.

“The displacement of the RAZR by the iPhone 3G represents a watershed shift in handset design from fashion to fashionable functionality,” says NPD’s director of industry analysis Ross Rubin in a press release.

This really is amazing to say the least. Just a few months ago, when Steve Jobs took the stage once more to announce the worst kept secret ever, Apple wasn’t selling a single device, but now the iPhone 3G out shined Motorola’s RAZR. Alright, let’s analyze this. Of all of the reports that I have been seeing and reading about in the last 24 hours, it appears that Apple’s iPhone also beats the Blackberry and the Palm Treo. How is this? Well, let’s take a look, SquareTrade looked at 15,000 handsets from each of this contestants and compared and contrasted.

Malfunction rates (per 15,000 handsets):

iPhone (average) 5.6%

Blackberry (average) 11.9%

Palm Treo (average) 16.2%

This is good news, also please note that these are out of 365 days (or 1 exact year). So this isn’t really accurate data for now, considering iPhone OS 2.0 - 2.0.2 and all… Here’s some bad news, iPhone’s are more prone to breaking (as some of us may know). They are so sleek that sometimes people drop them, spill alcoholic beverages on them, or accidentally throw them when using an application…

Breakage:

iPhone (average) 12%

Blackberry (average) 9%

Palm Treo (average) 9%

Bottom line: Everything Steve Jobs said about the iPhone seems to be coming true. This little phone is spawning a major consumer and business revolution, with sales far exceeding so many of those early expectations. Lot’s of people would say “why would someone buy something that expensive in this bad economy?” well I’ll tell you. It does everything you need it to do! Music, Video, Photos, iTunes Store, and ever growing App Store, Mail, YouTube, Widgets such as weather, maps, stocks, and notes, and those are just the basic applications. Did I also mention it makes calls? It does this much, and yet you still have no clue why people love the iPhone? Well, I’d get to a hospital as soon as I could… (just kidding)

Hey guys, this next one is a little shocking to me. It is very unexpected. I have been hearing reports of The Pwnage Tool failing on the new MacBooks. I have heard many reports from many different people across the country, and it seems that Apple has found a way to prevent The iPhone Dev Team’s Pwnage application.

So how is this even possible? Well, in order to successfully pwn your iPhone or iPod touch, it must be in a DFU state, so Apple has made it so that all new MacBooks prevent this. The iPhone or iPod touch will still be able to get into DFU mode, but here’s the kicker, the MacBook WILL NOT recognize any iPhone or iPod touch in DFU mode.

Whether this is due to hardware tweaks on the new MacBooks is not yet clear, but my guess is that Apple made a new build of iTunes that is running on these new MacBooks. This is not yet confirmed by any means, but it is highly probable. It is still unsure if this is an issue that current Mac OS X Leopard users will have to face with their outdated Macs, but at least for now, it is only affecting the new MacBook users.

So, what if these reports are 100% true? This just means that Apple is taking iPhone and iPod touch jailbreaking and unlocking more seriously than it used to. It seems that now the real battle has begun between us, in the iPhone and iPod touch hacking community, and Apple Inc. Let’s just see who will win in this 1 ½ year long cat and mouse game…

Yep. You heard right. The two biggest names in the iPhone/iPod touch hacking community are battling it out for the big prize. The first to jailbreak the iPod touch (2nd Generation). Now, there is much speculation surrounding this story. Many people have been complaining that neither the iPhone Dev Team, nor the Chronic Dev Team have made any statements as to the progress of the iPod touch in about 3 weeks. Well, this is why: the iPhone Dev Team is very secretive of such information due to the fact that Apple could patch the exploit, thus ruining any chance of a jailbreak. This is the exact same scenario that happened with Project “Jerry SIM”, Zibri stole the exploit, thus ruining it for the rest of us. Apple patched the exploit, and the team had to start from square one.

The most efficient way to hack an iPhone or iPod touch is through Pwnage, a process in which the hardware is manipulated to allow the skipping of code checks. Well, this is all fine and dandy, but the iPod touch (2nd Generation) has a different ARM processor. It now uses an Infineon chip set, thus changing the ram disk keys and such.

Well, I think I have said enough about the actual process. I mentioned a race right? Well, it’s true. The Chronic Dev Team has acquired system dump files, thus allowing them to look for an exploit. Not much can be said to the public about the iPhone Dev Team’s progress, but let me just say that I think that it is very likely that we will all have jailbroken iPod touch (2nd Generations) by New Years Day.
