[UPDATED] GeoHot Finds Exploit In Latest Baseband, Blacksn0w Coming November 4th

October 31st, 2009 by Alan Vazquez · 12 Comments

UPDATE: Well, I applaud GeoHot. I had no faith in him whatsoever, and I apologize to you all GeoHot fans, for I have been served… :( Well, it seems that GeoHot will be releasing “Blacksn0w” on November 4th.

Yes, let the hate mail roll on in, seriously, do it, I deserve it…

Now, I am corrected, not stupid. So I urge you, don’t download it until we can confirm that this has no negative effects on your iPhone. Why am I still hesitant? Because GeoHot’s Purplera1n crashed the baseband and caused major damages to iPhones who installed it when that was released. So please wait it out, you have been warned…

Well, it seems as though GeoHot (or his readers) found an exploit in the lastest 3.1.2 baseband. Now, I am going to tell you the truth, unlile other news organizations who have gotten a little too excited and are writing untruthful crap and confusuing the public.

Well, what really happened is that GeoHot managed to run arbitrary code on the latest baseband using a “public” command. Now, contrary to some of the lies out there, this does not mean that there is an unlock ready or there will ever be an unlock ready.

The reason is that running arbitrary code is the first step. Now he has to worry about 4 major things. Not killing his Sec Zone, not breaking the baseband, getting the ultrasn0w exploit to run (not purplera1n cuz that’s trash an is way too buggy), and to get the exploit to run/stay on after every reboot.

So for those of you who expect “Blacksn0w” soon, don’t hold your breath, remember yellowsn0w and ultrasn0w? How long it took the Dev Team to make an unlock work? That’s what I mean. it will be available November 4th…

Alan do u know if this works on the new iPhones with the new ibootroms? like the new 3GS that they just started shipping?

keanu: Yes. As long as you can jailbreak it, it will run. The baseband version is the same on all of the iPhone 3Gs and iPhone 3G S models.

And yes, you can jailbreak with blackra1n then unlock with blacksn0w.
