How To Downgrade iPhone 2.0 To 1.1.4

July 12th, 2008 · 9 Comments · Apple, FAQ, iPhone

iPhone DFU Mode

Hey guys, I have a tutorial that will help you get back to your old jailbreakable 1.1.4! (2.0 is jailbreakable, but the iPhone Dev Team has not yet released a new Pwnage Tool.) So let’s begin:

Step 1: Uninstall iTunes 7.7 and reboot

Step 2: Download and install iTunes 7.5
Download for Mac OS X
Download for Windows XP/Vista

Step 3: Download Firmware 1.1.4

Step 4: Manually put your iPhone/iPod touch (firmware 2.0) into DFU Mode.
a) Press and hold sleep/wake button until slider appears
b) Slide the red slider to power off
c) Once off, press and hold the home button
d) While holding the home button, connect iPhone/iPod touch to computer by inserting the USB cable.

Step 5: Restore to firmware 1.1.4 in iTunes 7.5

Step 6: Jailbreak/Unlock
(I won’t list any links because you all should know what method you prefer)

It takes more than this. Doing this will still leave you with the 04.05.04 baseband and a unusable phone. You need to downgrade the baseband using the tool here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=5785942&postcount=4) and then do a dfu restore to 114 again. Then you can go about pwnage or whatever else you want.

Hi i tried following the steps mentioned here, i have an ipod touch, and i got the touch 1.1.4 firmware to restore but it comes up with error 20 .. any ideas?

  • Alan Vazquez

Yes, (I accidentally forgot) you must place it into DFU mode so that it accepts the firmware.

It says the library itunes cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes. So iTunes won’t even launch.

Look, after you uninstall iTunes, reboot, then install iTunes 7.5, then put it in DFU mode, then restore. I’ve tried it, trust me it should work.

Thanks alan, i think i did put it in DFU , but it still did not work. Maybe a problem with my system. i got it to do what i wanted on the 2.0 firmware.. so im gonna wait for the 2.0 jailbreak now. Robby, i had to manually delete the old library for itunes to work properly. just search for it and remove it and that should do the trick…

Yes, I’ve been looking around and apparently there are mixed results with the method that I described. So I was one of the lucky ones I guess. Now, I also read that you must delete the old iPhone/iPod touch cache to let it recognize it and work properly, but some people didn’t need to do that. but if what I described to all of you (I’m talking to everyone) doesn’t work, then try to clear or reset the sync cache of your iPhone/iPod touch on iTunes.

Alright then the simple question now remains 🙂 how do you get it to clear/reset the sync cache ?
