3g jailbreak

The iPhone-Dev Team has done it. They have jailbroken the iPhone 3G with Pwnage Tool which should be released soon. Now you can run all of those applications that Apple will not all in the AppStore.

With the release of the new Pwnage Tool you will also be able to Unlock the 3G iPhone as well as 2G iPhones running firmware 2.0.

also, they said that the new Pwnage Tool will be available sometime this week.

I don’t think anyone from the dev team has stated anything (either way) about unlocking 3g phones….

Cool, where can I get a copy, I am very happy to test this

  • Alan Vazquez

Mark Slater: Hey man, well the Pwnage Tool isn’t available yet, expect a release of the tool in the next 5 days.

  • Mark Slater

    thanks for the prompt reply.
I seem to be stuck on 2.0, I keep getting the following error when I try to downgrade to any lower version:
The iPhone “iPhone” could not be resotred, and Unknown error occrued (20)

any ideas… I am lost for what to do next other then wait 5 days

  • Alan Vazquez

Well what you have to do is put it into DFU mode, then restore into 2.0, If there’s anything else that you would like to know, or if you need more help just hit up the comments again. 🙂

So I am with you all the way, to get me back to 2.0. this has always worked fine, but at 2.0 Jailbreak does not work and I can’t get my US AT&T 2G iPhone to accept the O2 PAYG sim card.
After resorting 2.0 and then restoring my backup, I tried using iTunes to restore, I placed the phone in DFU mode, I held down the option key and clicked on the restore button, selected the local file “iPhone1,1_1.1.2_3B48b_Restore.ipsw”. Just as you describe in your instructions.
The file extracted, then gave me that exact same error as before: The iPhone “iPhone” could note be restored. An unknown error occurred (20).
I have tried this using iTunes 7.5 and 7.7.
    really clutching at straws now…

  • Alan Vazquez

Well, there’s your problem. Look, it is impossible to restore (directly) into firmware 1.1.2, in either iTunes 7.5 or 7.7, your iPhone’s baseband will not allow you to go back to 1.1.2, you only have the option to restore to 1.1.4 or to restore back into 2.0. iTunes error 20 means that it cannot restore to that firmware because your iPhone will not allow it. Or you might be mistaken, there is also the possibility that you mix up 1.1.2 restore file with 2.0, 2.0 is firmware 2.0 build 5A347 (for iPhone 1st generation) 5A345 for iPhone 3G and iPod touch.

  • mark slater

I was aware that I could only go back to 1.1.4, it was 1.1.4 that I used before desparation set in and I tried 1.1.2
I will try again in the morning with a clear head
    Thx for your direction
Will post to all where this goes then

Alright Mark. Good luck. (Doing this sort of thing is easier for me after I get some sleep too.) Just think about the obvious before you go to the complicated. Please if you need any help directly from me just leave a comment. Oh, before I forget, restart your computer right now, then after you log back in, tun it off completely, then in the morning (or whenever) turn it on. (Sometimes the processes needed for iTunes and such start up wrong so you need to restart and such for them to start and work properly.)

    Hi Alan,

    Just to update you.
after another long day, I still have not been able to move this forwards!
    I am running BL04.05.04_G and firmware v2.0.

    I have downloaded iPhone1,1_1.1.4_4A102_Restore.ipsw
    iTunes 7.5

I even used appzapper to ensure that I completely removed any trace of 7.7 iTunes.

I rebooted my PowerBook and then also powered if off all night as I also did with the iPhone.

I downgraded iTunes, placed the iPhone into DFU mode.

iTunes then detects the phone needs restoring, I click OK and then hold down option and click on restore. I select my 1.1.4 file listed above, it extracts, I then get the same error…
The iPhone “iPhone” could not be restored, and Unknown error occurred (20).

I really don;t know what else to try… think I may have to wait until 3G jailbreak using PWNAGE is released…
unless you have any other suggestions.

I know this is only an issue with v2.0 as I have jailbroken my wifes iPhone that is running 1.1.4 without hitch

I appreciate all you help so far

  • Alan Vazquez

wow man. You know, there is a slight posibility that it is your iPhone’s fault. Sometimes an iphone is shipped (seemingly fine) but later could refuse to do things. (in this case, restore) this has happened to a handful of people. If this continues,I suggest taking it to apple. Sign up for an AT&T contract (or whatever) and after you get a new iPhone, terminate the plan.

  • Mark Slater

    Alan,

    wanted to let you know
    success!
    I downloaded PwnageTool 2.0
after a few attempts it all worked just fine 🙂
    I did observe the following:
when you run the tool, you much have the BL3.9 and BL4.6 in the same directory as the PwnageTool.
I ran the program for my 2G iPhone, I did not have my iPhone connected and did not have iTunes open, if got error: 1600 and 6 when I did have them connected.
I then saved the custom file the tool created inthe same directory as the BL’s
I then followed the tools directions to connect the phone and get it into DFU, i completely ignored what iTunes was asking me to do at this stage.
When the tool then recognized the iPhone was in DFU mode and instructed to close the program, only then did I go to iTunes.
I held down option and clicked on restore, selected the custom file that I had saved in the same directory as the Bl’s.
    All worked fine

    Happy days
all working fine, donation on its way
    you Guys Rock

  • Alan Vazquez
