Operation Chokehold: Live Coverage

December 18th, 2009 by Alan Vazquez · 20 Comments

UPDATE: Well guys, overall, this was a success! Thanks for joining us!

I am updating this article live! So refresh your browsers often, if you are on LEI Mobile, hit that lovely refresh button while in this article!

Well guys, the world is watching and waiting to see if this will be a sucess or if it will fail. Fake Steve Jobs has said that “this was meant as a joke”. Now, it doesn’t matter if he was joking or not, but this has gotten the attention of everyone.

People have showed their dislike for AT&T this past week and hopefully this will bring about the change we deserve.

Now so far, Operation Chokehold is working as it was intended.

* All of Alaska had no more AT&T coverage

* Protests outside AT&T Stores and Apple Stores

* Multiple Cell Towers are unresponsive as they have been taken down by the excess data

* The network hasn’t fully collapsed

* Some are reporting slow downs, while curiously, some are seeing faster speeds…. What is AT&T doing…

* Wolf Blitzer (CNN, The Situation Room) is covering the story as it happens:

* Southern New Jersey has said nighty night to the network. They apparently have “all 5 bars, but no 3G anymore”

* Salt Lake City, UT has no more EDGE or 3G! The network is fully down!

* Houston, TX is down as well.

* The 3G and EDGE networks here in Des Moines, IA have been slowed down to a virtual halt according to my sources (since I’m on T-Mobile)

* Add Dallas, TX to the list as well

We’re going to keep you updated as we get the live info!

It’s over guys! Thanks to all who participated, even though we apparently had an, ahem, unhappy reader, but who cares! Hopefully, this will prompt congress to further investigate AT&T’s monopolistic and unfair ways of doing business.

    Wow! Congrats!

Wow! All of you iPhone users that participated in “Operation: Chokehold.” You certainly proved something today. You proved how shortsighted and selfish that you are. So, basically, you didn’t even make a dent in AT&T’s network, but in some areas, you slowed the system so the average jo who has no interest or stake in your little operation had a harder time making a simple phone call or text message on his non-iPhone. I gotta tell you, that’s impressive. Instead of hurting AT&T, you hurt other users. Nicely done. Maybe next time each of you can prove that giving blood is pointless by slitting your wrists and letting yours drain out into the closest toilet. Give the gene pool a little cleaning. Congrats, again.

Wow! Congrats!: Look, the goal was to send a message to AT&T. Protests are all over AT&T stores and AT&T HQ. This is working perfectly. Slow downs and even crashes just prove our point. You said it yourself, only a few participated. A couple million. If a couple million use their data, and the network can’t support it! That just up and proves our point immediately.

A network as wealthy as AT&T shouldn’t have slow downs. They shouldn’t even be phased. Thisjust further proves the theory that AT&T is trash.

If you were to do this with a couple million on Verizon, you wouldn’t even see a scratch on their network.

If you’re happy and rich paying AT&T $100 a month on shit service, that’s your deal, but the majority of AT&T customers are unhappy.

Why don’t they switch to T-Mobile like we have?! Because Apple and AT&T are putting shit and lies into their heads in order to stop them from switching.

You are entitled to your opinion, but if anyone needs to slit their wrists, it’s you and your weird fucked up ideas.

To bad ignorant pricks like you never understand the concept of what was suppose to happen, the point was made hours before the operation began and the operation itself was to clarify that if AT&T is gonna have a phone exclusively for them then they better have their network able to support it

  • 4

    Wow! Congrats!

So, by hurting non-iPhone users you proved…what? That you could use a lot of data all at once? And there were precious few areas that reported any significant issues, or even minor ones. Basically, you proved that by using a lot of data simultaniously, it slows down the network. Anyone that has ever used a LAN and had too many high-intensity programs on too many devices knows that nugget of wisdom Heh, anyone that has tried to run too many programs at once on their home PC knows that it slows things down. Next, why don’t you try to prove gravity by dropping something? Maybe you can discover America. Or invent the wheel. Maybe discover fire. Congrats, again!

Wow! Congrats!; Mabe you can shut the fuck up. If you don’t like it, leave. No one cares. We have plenty of readers. We can do without 1 igorant reader.

  • 6

    Wow! Congrats!

But, wait! Now I’m confused. I thought all of this was to prove a point. I thought all of you mighty iPhone users were going to force AT&T to view things differently. Hear your roar. Now one dissenting voice speaking logic and reason is enough to make you resort to foul language and name calling? Truely a mature effort, much like the whole Operation: Chokehold fiasco.

Wow! Congrats!: I see why your angry now. You live in Utah. One of the places hit the hardest by Operation Chokehold. Ogden, UT only has slow downs. Stop whining. It’ll be back up in an hour or two.

    Wow! Congrats!

Truehybridx, your’re right I am an ignorant prick. I hope you know that I will have trouble sleeping tonight knowing that I’ll never know the pain of not being able to check out a great youtube video while grocery shopping. I’ll never know the agony of having to wait a few extra minutes to see a great new movie trailer while driving. I’ll never understand the sheer torture of knowing the sheer agony of not knowing how many new facebook friends I have while sitting at a funeral. You have certainly opened my eyes, and shown me that that kind of ignorance….truely is bliss.

    Wow! Congrats!

I live in Utah? Really? Won’t my realtor, bank, and car dealer be surprised. Do I need to fill out a change of address form? When did they move the Gateway Arch? I’m looking at it out of my office window, as I have every day for the last 4 years. Wait, this is my office, isn’t it? It still has my name on the desk…

But when u start talkin shit to my friends I get pissed! If I new who the fuck u were I would punch u in the face right now. If u dnt like this site, LEAVE. Just to throw it out there me and Alan use tmobile, and if you’re bitching so much it means you have AT&T and experienced major issues because of this, the goal was to show that AT&T needs to fix their cheap asses instead of trying to hamper the power of the iPhone on thier network… They wanted exclusiveness over the othe carriers so they should pay for it

  • 12

    TMAN

Hell ya!! Sadly here in San Diego Cali I didn’t notice any slowdowns or anything. AT&T better watch their ass.

  • 13

    Limited Edition iPhone

Guys please be nice to our readers!

  • 14

    TMAN

Lol@Wow!Congratz!, you seem to have a grudge against iPhone users. Don’t u see that this has nothing to do with iPhones? It has to do with AT&T… It seems like you mentioned iPhones more then AT&Ts horrible service. Why don’t u crawl under a rock and wait for the next topic so you can tell everyone how wrong they are. Get a life. I myself use this site to get updated info on apple news, if u don’t like what people are saying then just close the page. Keep up the good work Alan.

Mike: I doubt this guy is a reader. He probably stumbled here. What were we supposed to do? He’s saying crap not only to Brandon and I, but to everyone on this site. His points were totally off and we were just correcting him.

But seriously, if he has no interest in what we’re doing, why say anything at all? Much less, if he was going to bash us, the iPhone, and tell our readers to “slit their wrists”, I had to say something.

No one agrees with the guy.

You know how friendly I am. I befriend all of the readers who want to talk or be friends. A lot of them have my phone number for god’s sake.

But this character, I could tell he had no appreciation for us, Limited Edition iPhone, or even the iPhone. He was probably an AT&T employee, lol.

TMAN: I appreciate your support! We love our readers! Don’t get the wrong idea, just because some, uhh, lol. Strong words were told, doesn’t mean we hate anyone who disagrees. It’s just that some stuff was just uncalled for.

I know, I shouldn’t tell people “If you don’t like it, then leave” because it will “reduce our user base”, but seriously, if you feel that strongly, then you visited the wrong site. We’re all about the iPhone, and apparently, he wasn’t a fan of Apple or the iPhone.

I’m glad it was a success! And ur right Alan, he was just a whiny bitch who stumbled upon this amazing site, well we can say SHUT THE HELL UP to Wow! Congrats!

    Madman

Hey guys. If wow congrats wants to “protest” what we did he has every right. But know that we all stood up for what we believed in and we proved a point. Not just that their network could use a serious upgrade but also that we as AT&T customers won’t stand paying the same price for less service. Thank you to all who joined in!! It’s nice to know that people still fight for what they believe in. Final note, wow congrats you are a sour sad little boy and need help if you think that this many people fighting for what they were already paying for is wrong. Fighting for more coverage and stability is something all AT&T users should strive for!!

I am an AT&T customer in Alaska. I understand your feelings and reasons for doing what you did but did you ever think how it would impact those you cut off? It is winter, icy, and a very difficult place to drive. There was an accident, a bad one, and I couldn’t call 911 to get the people help. I pay my bills too and AT&T does have the best coverage for our unique area. What you did put peoples lives at risk just “to see if you could do it”. If the rates go up again in order to protect customers from similar incidents, that is entirely your fault. Yes, they were unprepaired but it was you who thought cutting people off from emergency services was acceptable. Please think about ALL the impacts your actions will have before you act. Lives that are not your own are just as important.

    truehybridx

@Chick324= ??? serioulsy?? it didnt reroute through other carriers to reach 911? Damn thats crap… Also the alaska ordeal happened way before this thing was scheduled to go off, but still i dont have any evidence to say O.C wasnt the cause…
The point is, regardless of O.C the 911 call should have gone through no matter what unless Alasks was completely dead Cellularly that same day

And we all did consider the imapacts on emergency services and it was decided that the cell network should have peered off the call onto a different network if AT&T’s was unable to process the request
