Otterbox has just released some new cases for the iPhone 3G / 3GS. They sent a few over to us to review. The first is the Otterbox Commuter TL Case.  You can find our review here.  The second case they sent us was the Otterbox Commuter Case.

The Otterbox Commuter case is currently only available in black, but color packs will be available soon. The Commuter case offers more protection to the side than the Commuter TL offers but does not protect the Apple logo on the back.

The Otterbox Commuter  includes three pieces.  The first thing you get is a clear protection film that adheres to your iPhone’s screen to protect it from scratches.  I bet most people already have this but it is nice to get a new one every so often.  The second piece is a silicon protection layer that helps your hands grip your iPhone with ease and dissipate shock away from your iPhone.  The last layer is a hard plastic clip that offers extra support and protects sides.

This case will not last long on my iPhone due to the opening in the back over the Apple logo.  It offers better protection than the Commuter TL case but I have no clue why they left the back exposed.

The Otterbox Commuter  is priced poorly at $34.95

It is nice that the Commuter series offers more protection to the side of the iPhone but that does not warrant a $5 increase in price.  It should be priced less than the Commuter TL due to the fact that the Apple logo on the back is exposed, where dust and debris can easily collect and scratch the phone.

Lastly all of your ports are fully covered by the silicon layer and can be easily opened to connect your headphones and cable.  Overall Limited Edition iPhone rates the Otterbox Commuter series a 6/10.
