Hey guys, well I have been reviewing a very cool battery case, courtesy of USB Fever. Well, this review has been very thorough as I love my Mophie Juice Pack and I wanted to compare both my Juice Pack Air against their Q-Power case.
Well, first, let’s look at it’s basic functionality. First of all, it is an external battery case that promises to allow your iPhone to work “for days while traveling”. So let’s start with that. The Q-Power case does in fact double your battery, but for me, it wouldn’t last “for days” as I am constantly texting, e-mailing, tweeting, on the web, working here at LEI, and so much more. This did however, last me one of my typical days.
Next, is the case part. The case is “durable” if you don’t abuse it too much. However, your screen will shatter if it falls straight on it’s face. There is no ridge on the case to even try to prevent screen destruction.
Next up, it’s Dual-SIM feature. Now, since I have iPhone OS 3.1.2, I personally couldn’t test this, but I did have one of my friends who is on iPhone OS 3.0 test this, and it did in fact work as advertised. No issues. The only real issue is that you need iPhone OS 3.0 or iPhone OS 3.0.1 for the dual-SIM feature to work properly.
So as for it’s main parts that are advertised, it does a pretty good job overall, I give it an 8.5 out of 10.
There are some other cool features, such as a built-in USB cable,LED indicator, and them Dual-SIM feature works seamlessly if you are on iPhone OS 3.0.
Now, onto the negatives, which there are unfortunately some major design defects.
The first is the first impression. The thing that got me was that it was impossible to figure out, initially. I had so much trouble putting the damn thing together. Cases such as this, should NOT have to be assembled by the customer. It took me about 10 minutes to figure out how to get it, even with the instructions.
I also, had a hard time finding the USB cable. For this, you need to have the iPhone in the case and also you have to take the case apart to access it, but once you find the USB cable, it works. Except, it’s way too small. I had a hard time trying to connect it even on my tiny netbook!
Another thing that immediately got me was that there is no ringer on/off slot! I constantly turn from ringer to on or off throughout the day to accommodate my location and situation.
The final thing that just drove me completely insane, was the LED indicator! I wanted to shoot myself in the foot! The LED indicator is ALWAYS on and it’s on the front of the case! Not just that, it is extremely bright and there is no way to charge your iPhone and have the indicator off.
All that I ask, is that they take my points and critique, and redesign their case.
All they need to do, is have the case be more like the Mophie Juice Pack Air and be 1 big piece and one top piece. All pre-assembled. Have the damn indicator on the back, and have a slot on the side for the ringer switch. Also, make the USB cable more easily accessible and longer, along with a ridge on the screen side.
Fix this and you will have a great product that could potentially cause Mophie a big headache.
Overall, this gets a 7.5 out of 10. This is potentially a must-have product, but in it’s current state, it just causes a big headache if you have astigmatism (among other eye related issues) like I do, which means light hurts my eyes. So there you go guys.
I want to thank USB Fever for sending me their Q-Power case, and I really do hope that they take my word and fix these issues, and once they do, I’ll be more than happy to review their product again.

lol… will think 3 times before getting this one
can you tell me about speaker and mic performance with this case? I don’t see any hole on the bottom (like mophie juice air pack). thanks
