So you just jailbroke and unlocked your iPhone 3G to work with the new 3.0 firmware only to find out that push is not working?  Well we have a solution for you.  Its not pretty but it works.  I know the iPhone-Dev team is hard at working getting it implemented into RedSn0w.  But for now here are the steps you need to take in order to get push working on your newly jailbroken iPhone.

First thing you need to do is get a AT&T simcard
Put the AT&T Sim card into your iPhone 3G and restore to firmware 3.0.
You will now have an unactivated iPhone 3G, so you will need to jailbreak it with RedSn0w.
Once that is done you will need to turn of 3G.
Go to settings and turn off your 3G.
You will probably see a waiting for activation message. Just ignore it an open up Cydia.
You should get a “Waiting for activation.” message, dismiss it and Open cydia.
Install all of the updates and then restart Cydia.
Next add the Ultrasn0w source repo666.ultrasn0w.com.The Last o is a number zero.
Let Ultrasn0w install and then turn off your iPhone 3G.
Remove the ATT sim and insert your T-Mobile simcard.
When you turn the iPhone 3G back on you will see the message. “iPhone has been activated” and Push will now be working!

Apple must have put this measure into place to stop people who use it for piracy.  Currently if you log into someone elses iTunes account you can download apps that they have purchased directly onto your iPhone.  I know many people who have one iTunes account per family and they all share the apps within the family.  I can say that I let my brother download a poker app when he first got firmware 2.0.  This is a great way to try and stop piracy but is an inconvenice for others.  Personally I like to delete apps and then redownload them when I need them.  Weatherbug for example, I initally got it when it was released and do not use it much so I deleted it.  Last weekend when I was traveling and wanted to check the weather, I redownloaded it again for free at the airport.  Hopefully this will not make it to the final realease of firmware 3.0, but I am betting that it will be included.

There are a few Skype apps in the App Store already, but none of them give you the full features of Skype like the official Skype app will.  As you can see from some of the sample pictures you can check your Skype Credits, edit your profile, set your status etc.

For those of you unfamiliar with Skype, it is a Voice Over IP client that lets you make calls over wifi so you do not waste your cellular minutes.  You can also call anywhere in the world for 2.1 Cents per minute.

Jay Freeman, the developer of Cydia, has created an alternative to the App Store.  The Cydia Store will only be available to those iPhone users that have a jailbroken phone.  While Apple does not like jailbroken phones, over 1.7 million people are already using Cydia to modify their iPhone with hacks, mods, and applications that Apple will never approve on their App Store.

The Cydia Store’s first paid app, Cyntact, costs $1.00 and shows profile pictures in the contact lists.  Saurik,  (Jay Freeman’s handle) will charge developers 30% to have their apps on the Cydia Store.  This is the same price Apple charges.  If developers are denied from the App Store they can now get their apps out to the public with the Cydia Store.  Most of the items you will find in Cydia are free with the exception of a few.  We can expect to see some very neat and useful apps in the Cydia Store soon!

Hey guys. It’s been a while since we’ve reviewed something for you guys, but here we go again! Today I have an application called iDownload to review. iDownload is an application for the iPhone (2G & 3G) and iPod touch (1G & 2G) that allows you to wirelessly download files that Mobile Safari wouldn’t normally download. (Which is basically anything)

iDownload even allows you to download zip archives and executables such as .exe and .dmg. (Of course you can’t execute them) It has some pretty intelligent coding in it, as it will read any file type that the iPhone OS is allowed to read. This includes any image files, PDFs, Microsoft Office Documents, iWork Documents, any audio file, any video file, you name it.

I have had wonderful experiences with iDownload after the recent update. Before the update, iDownload would crash on me, and occasionally corrupt my downloaded files. Now with version 1.0.2, iDownload is flawless. There is a hitch though, iDownload does not support Rapidshare documents yet. I use Rapidshare all the time, Silicon Studios has promised to bring that functionality to their application in the next update.
