UPDATE 2: I was mistaken, it was not a next-gen (iPhone 4G) model, it was a missing iPhone 3G S model.

UPDATE 1: Apple has released a statement and confirmed the incident:

“We are saddened by the tragic loss of this young employee and we are awaiting results of the investigations into his death,” Apple spokeswoman Kristin Huguet told CNET on Tuesday. “We require our suppliers to treat all workers with dignity and respect.”

On Thursday, July 9th, Sun got 16 prototype phones from the assembly line at a local Foxconn factory. At some point in the next few days, he discovered that one of the phones was missing. He suspected that it had been left at the factory, but couldn’t find it.

On Monday, July 13, he reported the missing phone to his boss. Then, that Wednesday, three Foxconn employees searched his apartment — illegally, according to Chinese law. Accusations are flying that Sun was detained and physically abused during the investigation, although this has not been substantiated (possible evidence: there’s this somewhat garbled and potentially faked instant message exchange from Sun shortly before his death).

What is known: On Thursday (a little after 3 a.m. according to surveillance videos in the apartment building) he jumped out of a window in his apartment building to his death

I am disguisted and saddened over this incident, all over an iPhone 3G S prototype. Look, it seems that a Foxconn cares more about what their big boss Apple than human life. I hope Foxconn goes bankrupt.

Apple should drop them immediately. There is no reason for this to happen over a simple iPhone prototype. This will most likely result in a huge lawsuit against Foxconn.

Apple is in no way responsible for this, as they just cannot be held responsible for a different company’s brutal and unjustified actions.

Our condolences go out to his friends and family.

Yes everyone, this is breaking news here at Limited Edition iPhone. It seems Apple has listened to some minor instability issues (and also wants to kill ultrasn0w), so iPhone OS 3.1 beta 1 has landed into developers hands just a few moments ago. Developers can go here to download the new sdk.

Do not update to this when it comes out (possibly in the next couple of weeks) if you want to unlock or want to keep the capability of unlocking.

New “features” found so far include:

• Trimming video clips on the iPhone 3GS now offers the ability to save the edited version as a copy rather than simply overwriting the original file.

• Voice Control over Bluetooth is now available, allowing users to Initiate calls and control music playback via Bluetooth headsets.

• MMS is now enabled by default, but still not supported by AT&T.

• iPhone vibrates when rearranging Home screen icons.

• A “Fraud Protection” toggle is now available in Safari settings.

• iPhone startup and shutdown and app launching times have improved.

• New APIs allow developers of third-party application to access and edit videos.

• OpenGL and Quartz have seen improvements.

• Also, baseband has been updated to 05.08.01

I will update this when we can find new features in 3.1. Stay tuned…

You’ve Already Purchased this. You can redownload it for free on your computer, or tap Buy to buy it again.

Apple must have put this measure into place to stop people who use it for piracy. Currently if you log into someone elses iTunes account you can download apps that they have purchased directly onto your iPhone. I know many people who have one iTunes account per family and they all share the apps within the family. I can say that I let my brother download a poker app when he first got firmware 2.0. This is a great way to try and stop piracy but is an inconvenice for others. Personally I like to delete apps and then redownload them when I need them. Weatherbug for example, I initally got it when it was released and do not use it much so I deleted it. Last weekend when I was traveling and wanted to check the weather, I redownloaded it again for free at the airport. Hopefully this will not make it to the final realease of firmware 3.0, but I am betting that it will be included.

Yes everybody, this is true. It seems that Apple doesn’t want people to have the ability to downgrade anymore. This could be accidental or it could have been 100% intentional, either way, developers are in trouble.

Apple has stated that they “might” fix this in a later seed. Basically, what happened, was that they killed backwards compatibility with anything between 1.0 – 3.0 beta 2! This is a big issue for anyone that has updated to iPhone OS 3.0 beta 3.

Apple has also stated that you cannot develop any applications with 3.0 beta 3 for 2.2.1 consumption. Like I said, big issue here. Almost all developers are on 3.0 right now, so this could get a little ugly.

No one is exactly sure what Apple changed to kill off all compatibility with 3.0 beta 2 and under, but I do have some theories. I believe Apple must have reflashed the bootloader or something in the boot sequence (or DFU) which killed off backwards compatibility.

There is a baseband update in the firmware, but I know this is not the cause. I know this because iPod touch users are also subject to this issue of incompatibility with anything 3.0 beta 2 or below. As you all may know, the iPod touch has no baseband (because it really doesn’t need one, because it doesn’t make calls over the cell network).

So I will keep you all informed on this. So if you are on iPhone OS 3.0 beta 2, I suggest downgrading and abandoning the 3.0 beta ship until they get this resolved.

Alright everyone, it’s been a while since we’ve posted anything and I think its time to let you all get some of the little tid bits that come are way that haven’t made the cut to be on the site.

Alright everyone, it’s been a while since we’ve posted anything and I think its time to let you all get some of the little tid bits that come are way that haven’t made the cut to be on the site.

So here we go!

The first has been 100% confirmed, this is that AT&T is doubling the speeds of their 3G network on a massive scale. They are increasing their theoretical max speed of 3.6mb/s to a theoretical 7.2mb/s.

So why is this so important? Well, AT&T has increased their network every time Apple is about to launch a new iPhone. In 2006 – 2007 AT&T increased their EDGE network on a massive scale (remember the original iPhone is EDGE only), then in 2008, AT&T also massively increased their 3G network (to accommodate the iPhone 3G) and now, another massive increase!

We have also received word that the next iPhone will have a new chipset that will support 7.2mb/s on 3G. So I believe that we can pretty much confirm that rumor. The next iPhone will be way faster than the iPhone 3G, (data speed wise).

The next little tid bit is a new camera for the iPhone. Apple has placed orders for tons of 3.2 mega pixel cameras. Everyone with an iPhone will know that the camera is one of the weakest points of the iPhone. I can pretty much confirm this as well.

Next up, a MacBook Tablet?! Yes ladies and gentlemen. Apple has placed orders for 10 inch touchscreens from Wintec. Now Wintec is the company that produces the touchscreens for the iPhone and iPod touch so we may be seeing an iPhone OS enabled tablet soon. Apple has ordered these new screens for the end of the third quarter of this year.

I do not expect an announcement at WWDC of a new tablet, but rather later in the year at a special event.

Next is that China Unicom has confirmed that they will be getting exclusive rights to sell the iPhone. That opens up the market to 2 BILLION more people!!! WOW!

The next is one about (my favorite person) Steve Jobs. Sources are indicating that he is doing better and will most likely be at WWDC 2009 giving the keynote on June 8th.

Sources also indicate that he is also actively leading the new MacTablet project, iPhone 3rd Gen project, and the upcoming Mac OS X Snow Leopard. So I hope to see him there at 9am (pacific time/ 11am central time) on stage.

These next couple are new features in iPhone OS 3.0, first up is video recording. Video recording can pretty much be a confirmed thing. More references have been found in iPhone OS beta 3.

Next is voice recognition, this is another (pretty much) confirmed feature. Tons of references have been found in iPhone OS 3.0 beta 3. All of these, however, refer to “SB”, we all know what that means, voice recognition will be a SpringBoard.app attachment. (Along with Spotlight).

So it seems that Apple is now using SpringBoard as a, well, spring board to propel 3.0 into greatness.

Aright everyone, these are all of the (worth noting) little tid bits for you guys. We will keep you all updated on some pretty cool stuff that we are going to do for you guys in the cumming weeks.
