UPDATE 3: GV Mobile has been updated! Grab it on Cydia now! It should now be 3.0 & JailBreak Friendly!

UPDATE 2: GV Mobile developer Sean Kovacs has just confirmed to me a new version of GV Mobile, which I expect to be a tad more “jailbreak friendly”  I have been unable to enter my Google Voice account due to a crash, so check Cydia “very soon” for a fix!

UPDATE 1: Yes, truehybridx is correct. GV Mobile is now available on Cydia for free! Just refresh your sources and download it if you have been invited to join Google Voice!

What the hell?! Apple has rejected Google’s official Google Voice application for the iPhone. Google submitted the application 6 weeks ago, and today it was rejected.

More news comming out of the Apple scene, GV Mobile, an unofficial Google Voice application, was pulled from the App Store on the same day.

The only reason GV Mobile made it to the App Store in the first place was because Phil Schiller himself ordered it to be approved a few months ago.

Apple’s idiotic response for pulling the app:

“It duplicated functionality of built-in applications on the iPhone”

WHAT THE HELL?! What about free texting applications such as TextFree Unlimited, which “duplicates” texting, or any of the voice recorder apps which “duplicate” functionality of its built-in Voice Memos application.

This is an outrage! We need a Google Voice app! Me and Mike were invited to join Google’s Google Voice beta program, and we need an app that let’s us use it on the go.

The rest of you swill be able to use Google Voice in the forseeable future.

This is also AT&T’s fault. Their pathetic network can’t take even a small amount of load, because it might “take down the entire network”.

This is complete bull sh@#! Google’s official Google Voice app is available for other phones which are on AT&T’s mediocre network!

Now, to me, Apple is making one of the stupidest calls its ever made. Its killing off relations with Google!

Ever since Google announced its Android OS relations started to strain. Now, with their latest, Chrome OS, it appears as though Apple is trying to show them who’s boss.

Sure, Apple’s market cap is larger than Google’s (barely) but its no reason to act like children.

Not only has the official Google Voice application been killed off, but Google’s “Google Latitude” service was also reduced to a steamy pile of crap.

Apple made them change latitude from an actual applocation, to a crappy/laggy, web application. Lattitude’s functionality was reduced to nothing, all over Eric Schmidt’s resiliance to step down from Apple’s board of directors.

Apple and Google should resolve their differences between them, not anger their customers!

At this rate, their both going to end up killing eachother’s near-perfect technology. They need to work together, or else we may see our favorite gadgets lose basic features such as Maps and Google Search built in…

Hey everyone. This is pretty cool. It seems Apple gave Safari a way to give out your location to websites on the internet! This can be both awesome and convenient or dangerous and a hazard.

Hey everyone. This is pretty cool. It seems Apple gave Safari a way to give out your location to websites on the internet! This can be both awesome and convenient or dangerous and a hazard.

Well, I have seen the new iPhone 3G S commercials, and I saw the “Copy & Paste” commercial, and I saw you could copy a map in Safari, well, I tried using regular maps.google.com, and it just took me to the Maps application, well upon further investigation, I found that if you tap on local, you can give your location to Google!

You don’t have to sign into your G-Mail to use this. I tried logged in and without logging in and it still worked.

Well, the way this works is, you type in a keyword, like I tried, “Apple Store”. Then give it a search. Then it should show you your search result. Tap on the link, and it will come back with a ton of useful info and a map that you can use copy and paste on!

The possibilities are endless, and Google is the first to do use your location in Safari, and its really useful.

Sure you can just use the maps app, but this is an alternative that works just as well.

Hey guys, wow! Was I surprised to find something awesome! I was in Google’s application and I was going to change some setting on the app and my iPod lagged (I had music + app installing + push enabled) and I kept on scrolling to get the screen to react, and guess what I found?! A “bells and whistles” menu! It was hidden. I think that perhaps Google’s developers forgot to take the menu out, (or were lazy and just hid it).

Either way, it was a surprise to me. I’m not sure if anyone has already found this (or if someone has posted on this at all) but yeah. I took some screen shots of this for you guys.

Now inside this hidden menu you can change the theme of the application, change the sounds from “Default” to “Chicken” or “Monkey”. You can so opt to open links to applications inside the application. It’s really cool having the hidden menu.

Now after I got to the hidden menu, it stayed there. So I guess that Google might have just been having a little fun (I have a hard time believing that though) but either way, it’s pretty cool. Now, after I found the menu, the lag on the “settings” tab went away.

So how did I do this? Well just flick your finger upwards in the “settings” tab, until “About” is the last thing you see, then keep flicking upwards really fast. Now you should have it!

Alright ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, I have a very cool hack for you iPod touch 1G users! I have a hack for you guys that will enable Google Street View for you! Now I say iPod touch 1G because we do not have a jailbreak for iPod touch 2G users to share right now… Anyways, this is a simple hack that will enable those pesky missing features.

PLEASE READ EVERYTHING FIRST, IT REALLY ISN’T AS MUCH WORK AS YOU MIGHT THINK!

All you have to do is:

*Retrieve the N45AP.plist file from /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/N45AP.plist

*Convert the .plist to a .xml file (to do this, go pay our friends at iAppCat a visit http://iappcat.com/plist/bin2xml

*Add the following string to the N45AP:

<key>telephony</key>
<dict>
<key>maximumGeneration</key>
<real>2.5</real>
</dict>

put it below the part where it says

<key>standAloneContacts</key>
<true/>

*save the file!

*Go back and pay our friends a visit again at http://iappcat.com/plist/bin2xml and convert the xml file back into a binary.

*Now rename the old N45AP.plist file to N45AP.plist.old

*SSH the new modified N45AP.plist

*Reboot!

*SSH back again (To fix some issues)

*Navigate to /Applications/Preferences.app

*Download the Settings-iPod.plist to your desktop

*Delete the Settings-iPhone.plist and the Settings-iPod.plist files still in the iPod touch.

*On your desktop, rename the Settings-iPod.plist to Settings-iPhone.plist

*Reboot!

Now you are done. If you want to fix the “No Service” issue:

1) Install the following packages from Cydia:

Erica Utilities
MobileTerminal

2) Run these commands in MobileTerminal (named “Terminal” on SpringBoard/Home screen)

su

alpine

plutil -c xml1 /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/N45AP.plist

plutil -c xml1 /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/English.lproj/SpringBoard.strings

* SSH to /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/English.lproj,

* Copy and Paste SpringBoard.strings, and name it one SpringBoard-2.strings

*Open the original in any text editor.

*Hit Ctrl + F (Cmd + F for Mac) and search for: No Service
or you can look about 2/5 of the way down where it says:

<key>NO_SERVICE</key>
<string>No Service</string>

*Replace the stuff in between <string></string> with what you want it to say.

If you want the “iPod” back, it should now read this:

<key>NO_SERVICE</key>
<string>iPod</string>

*Reboot

Now you are done! There is only 1 small issue remaining. That is that the activation popup will still be there. Now this may look like a lot of work but it really isn’t. Well guys, that’s it for now!
