It Is Sn0wing in June: UltraSn0w Unlocks All iPhone 3G iPhones!

Yes everyone, it is Tuesday June 23, 2009 at 1:34am (central time) and the iPhone Dev Team has just released ultrasn0w to the public just a couple minutes ago. (We are also the first to break the news, other than the dev team of course)

This is it folks!

1. Ensure you have upgraded to iPhone OS 3.0
2. Jailbreak your iPhone 3G using redsn0w or PwnageTool (this will also install Cydia/Icy)
3. Run Cydia or Icy
4. Please add the repo repo666.ultrasn0w.com to Cydia or Icy. That last “o” is actually the number zero “0”! If you use the letter “o” you’ll get an error.
5. Search for ‘ultrasn0w’ in cydia or icy and install ultrasn0w
6. Reboot your iPhone 3G
7. T-Mobile USA users should disable 3G before using ultrasn0w
8. Enjoy

UPDATE 1: It seems the iPhone Dev Team can find time to make easter eggs for you guys and fix their issues and make a new QuickPwn. (sorta) Anyways, Mac OS X Pwnage Tool users, hold the s and f keys and click the PwnApple in the “About PwnageTool” box. I am not sure what this does as I do not have a Mac (yet). Post a comment if you know what this easter egg is.

Hey everyone. I have gotten confirmation from the iPhone Dev Team that they have a 100% working Pwnage Tool fofr Mac OS X. The YouTube/Push Notifications issue and ASR fix are also in that release.

Lucky for all of you Mac OS X Tiger and Leopard people, you can now jailbreak your iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, and iPod touch 1G! (iPod touch 2G support not available yet, use redsn0w)

I will still have to wait (along with all of you Windows users) for quickpwn. QuickPwn for Mac OS X and Windows is still being created. I will update this post will all subsequent jailbreak tool releases once I get confirmation of their release.

UPDATE: The Dev Team seems to have encountered a bug in the iPhone’s ASR and they are also having issues hacktivating YouTube in 3.0. That’s why the new QuickPwn and Pwnage Tool have not been released yet. Just sit tight. Wait it out. They are trying as best as they can. Don’t worry, its just some small (Apple caused, non intentional) bugs that they are trying to live with. We’ll post a new article when we do have a new jailbroken tool ready! Until then…

Hey everyone. As you may now know, iPhone OS 3.0 (7A341) has been released. Now, since everyone pretty much updated at the same time, Apple’s iTunes Activation servers are temporarily down!

Just hang tight. Apple has released a statement stating that they are working hard to correct the issue.

Also, there has been no word (at the time I am writing this) on the new Quickpwn and Pwnage Tools. They should be live as well in about 10 minutes, as the developer Gold Master that I have is exactly the same as the 3.0 Gold Master that you all now have.

Just days after firmware 2.2 was made public the iPhone Dev Team released an update to PwnageTool and QuickPwn.  You can now jailbreak your iPhones and iPod Touch.

1. GOLDEN RULE: If you have a 3G iPhone and want potential soft unlock in the near future do NOT use QuickPwn, and do not use the official ipsw or the iTunes update process without using PwnageTool.
   
2. Read item 1 again and again.
3. At the bottom of this post are the bittorrent files for the latest versions of PwnageTool and QuickPwn.
4. These are suitable for the recent 2.2 release.
5. Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools.
6. The ‘late 2008’ MacBook/air/pro line of computers have an issue with DFU mode.  While it’s possible to go from Pwned 2.1 -> Pwned 2.2 (using PwnageTool), you can’t yet go from stock to pwned.  If in any doubt use a different machine.
   
7. Choosing the correct tool is crucial. Be warned!

Locked iPhone 3G

This applies if you have a locked iPhone 3G and you wish to update to 2.2 but preserve the iPhone’s current baseband software. Preserving the baseband will give you the maximum chance for any upcoming software unlock. To upgrade your phone to 2.2 and preserve the state of the baseband you need to create a custom .ipsw with PwnageTool. This custom .ipsw will not contain the baseband update but of course will still allow all the cool new stuff from 2.2.

There are plenty of tutorials about this process on the web, but PwnageTool contains intuitive graphics and easy to follow prompts that should have you up and running in no time at all. Please note: PwnageTool is only available for Mac OS X.

Update or Restore your iPhone 2G with iTunes then run QuickPwn to jailbreak.

iPod Touch 1G (Original iPod Touch)

Update to 2.2 with iTunes and run QuickPwn.

iPod Touch 2G (New iPod Touch)
