Cydia: Error Couldn’t configure pre-depend dpkg for ncurses, probably a dependency cycle.

IError Couldn't configure pre-depend dpkg for ncurses, probably a dependency cycle.

Did you just update your iPhone 3G, jailbreak with Redsn0w, and try to update packages in Cydia only to find this message: Error Couldn’t configure pre-depend dpkg for ncurses, probably a dependency cycle.

The Fix: It is caused by installing ICY. Rejailbreak and do not select ICY.  You can just rejailbreak using redsn0w 0.7.1 and you do not need to restore the firmware.

    Hi!

If you has ssh access to iphone, you could fix this by dpkg.
Download the debs, go to /var/cache/apt/archives and install the packages with dpkg -i –force-all

You should install the debs in the dependency order!

    Cheers

I jailbroke my iPhone 2G with PwnageTool 3.1.4 because I couldn’t get it to work with any version of RedSn0w. But Pwanage doesn’t let you check either Cydia or Icy. So, any other suggestions? (And please be as simple and clear as possible. I’m a newbie at this.)

Never mind: I re-jailbroke using Pwnage in “Expert” mode, and there you can choose not to install Icy. Getting apps with Cydia works now.
