iPod touch 2.2 Firmware Comes Up Short

November 22nd, 2008 · No Comments · Apple, Applications, iPhone

Alright guys, this one was really surprising to me because it was really unexpected and (to tell you the truth) really bogus on Apple’s part. Before I updated to firmware 2.2, I noticed that where it told me the features, there was no mention of anything in Google Maps. So I just updated anyways, and guess what? NO UPDATES TO MAPS!

What happened? Steve, Forestall, what the hell were you guys thinking? Why do this? Why give us everything except the updated Maps application? Well, the only reason that I can find is that Apple isn’t giving these things to us iPod touch users, because of the fact that we don’t pay monthly phone bills. Apple has stated that it has to charge for new applications or substantially big updates. They have stated that “accounting” problems are to blame.

This just isn’t fair by any means. I think that us iPod touch users will see an updated Maps application on the next release of the firmware, due to the fact that they will be getting so many complaints by tomorrow. As for the “accounting” charge, why would they charge? This isn’t that big of an update, just some minor tweaks here and there.

The problem is that Apple hasn’t issued a paid version of the firmware either, so we still have no idea why use iPod touch users are left out in the cold on this one…
