Did you just update your iPhone 3G, jailbreak with Redsn0w, and try to update packages in Cydia only to find this message: Error Couldn’t configure pre-depend dpkg for ncurses, probably a dependency cycle.
The Fix: It is caused by installing ICY. Rejailbreak and do not select ICY. You can just rejailbreak using redsn0w 0.7.1 and you do not need to restore the firmware.

I’ve also installed ICY besides Cydia and now I understand why I get the ‘couldn’t configure…’ error. But I used Redsn0w 0.7.2 to jailbreak my iPhone 3G (after the official FW 3.0 restore). When I started Redsnow to jailbreak my iPhone it asked for an ipsw-file so I used the FW 3.0 restore-file named “iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw” I downloaded from iphoneclub.nl. Now is my question; witch method do I need to rejailbreak my iPhone 3G without restoring it? Is it possible with Redsnow 0.7.2? And what ipsw-file do I need?

Paul I originally jailbroke with 0.7.2. I then rejailbroke with 0.7.1. I am being told that if you rejailbreak with 0.7.2 and do not select ICY you will be OK. USE: iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw for the IPSW.

nah. didn’t work here. rejailbroke with 0.7.2 using the iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw and still cannot install stuff from Cydia. Trying to upgrade, install Winterboard and Categories.
all right. rejailbroke using previous (0.7.1) version of redsn0w. Cydia working like a charm. Winterboard installed and functional. way to go.

First you will need to restore on itunes to get rid of icy
Second Rejailbreak and do NOT check icy
Third Should work fine

Luigi: Yes, you have to start from Reds0w directly. You don’t need to redownload Ultrasn0w if you do that.
For those wondering about the Icy icon after rejailbreaking: Don’t worry about it. Icy is still fully functional. It seems that the first jailbreak is quite buggy when you intall both Cydia and Icy, when you redownload without selecting Icy, the “bug” is fixed, or so it looks like it. I have been able to use Icy and Cydia with no problems after rejailbreaking my 3G.
This work-around does the job!
I re-jailbreak’d iPhone using Redsnow 0.72, Icy and Unlock was already “unchecked” by the way. Then upgraded Cydia (Complete) with no errors. Both Cydia and Icy now work fine.
