If you have modified you iPhone in anyway before the release of 1.1.1 Firmware and need to restore if for whatever reason, there is a solution for you without upgrading to the latest firmware.
PC users can hold shift and click the restore button. iTunes will show you the firmware you want restore. Select the firmware that is currently on the phone (1.02).
Mac users hold down the option button and click restore. iTunes will bring up a window to select the firmware file you would like to use.
You can find the old iPhone firmware on this site.
PLEASE NOTE: IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO DOWNGRADE YOUR FIRMWARE YET!! IF YOU UPGRADE TO 1.1.1 YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GO BACK!!

I bought a new iphone that came with firmware 1.1.1 and i managed to downgrade it to 1.0.2 and activated it to get everything working expect the phone, still working on getting the phone part using the anysim on the iphone right now…some help will be apprciated

it is not possible yet to use the phone if you have had 1.1.1 and downgraded. You are stuck with a wifi ipod at the moment. The iPhone Dev team is testing a solution.

i just restored my unlocked iphone with the 1.0.2 version and it is asking to activate it.
How should i activate the iphone now?
It says connect to i tunes…

use ibrickr to activate. If you want to upgrade you have to virginize it if you have already unlocked or tried to unlock it.

ok i have this iphone and i wanted to update it and a message came up saying i have to download and install the new 1.1.1.4 and the jus out of the blue an error occured….and now i tried to restore it to factory seeting but sumtin happened…..and now i have this usb cord with the itunes logo on it and i cnt get into the phone it has a little lock to the top what does this mean?PLEASE HELP…..IM FROM THE BAHAMAS AND IT NOT READING MY SIM CARD STATING THAT MY SIMM CARD IS NOT IDENTIFIED AND ITS A GSM SIMM

Keeping your iPhone docked:
Slide to unlock
Hold down home button and power button for about 10 seconds or until the screen goes black.
Release the power button but continue holding the home button.
After about 10 seconds the computer will detect the iPhone in restore mode, and iTunes should tell you that the phone needs to be restored.”
You might need to try this a few times to get the timing right – it also helps to have a stopwatch or have your time set to show seconds. Good luck!
when ur done use one of the frame wires from here or else it’ll just happen again when ur restoring
