Are you one of the many people who is having problems with your touchscreen on the iPhone? Hack you hacked your iPhone, unlocked your iPhone, or a non AT&T customer? Now that Apple’s warranty requires you to have an AT&T phone number to get your iPhone replaced or repaired, how do you fix your touchscreen problem?
There are a few options for you at the moment. You can purchase replacement parts, virginize your iPhone and try to return it, or modify your phone even more to try and fix the problem.If you are experiencing a touchscreen issue you can edit the sensitivity of your touch screen to make your iPhone more responsive. You simply need to replace your general.plist file with a modified version found here:

You will need to overwrite your general.plist located in Applications/preferences.app
The default sensitivity on the iPhone’s touchscreen is 3.5. You have the option to set it from 0-16, where 0 is the most sensitive. Recently I have had a few issues with my touchscreen and applied this modification and everything is working 10x better.
This hack may work for the majority of iPhone users, but there may be a few that will need to replace their LCD completely.
You add the code below to the General.plist:

Yost edited the General.plist file, for people who have a dead strip on the top of the screen, so that the touch option is now on the bottom right under “reset” under pref>general>touch.
(take out the “.” in the link in “rapid”)

Ok I’ve done it. I cant reach general in settings area, so I cant try to change touch senstivity. If wallpaper and general could switch places i could reach general. before that it inpossible. Or should i try to change the source of touch.plist from 3.5 to 0?
For clearance i downloaded those files and uploaded to phone via ssh but the situation is the same as mentioned above
Hi, i have 1.1.4 firmware and the upper dead strip prob,i have the 2 modified files but i can’t upload them because i had used Ziphone to unlock and iBricks doesn’t works ,it needs (ziphone ibrickr fix) to be downloaded and i can’t add Sources. I can’t neither use the sshkit(with WinSCP)because you must power off during the procedure. . What can i do?

Your phone has to be jailbroken! Then copy the 2 files to “Applications -> Prefrences” folder…
Dont think it goes to -15.. But you can try.. Edit the touch.plist with Wordpad… Its at the top…
just installed ziphone 3.0, need to fix deadspot around lower spot on the screen, how do i ssh into phone and install above fixes in iphone, sorry guys, just a newbie.

I used winscp ( can download it searching google)to switch general.plist file and touch.plist. don´t know other way… try to consult other foruns. Good luck!
Guys, finally I found how to modify the value of the Touch: /private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/com.apple.springboard.plist
The value to put is “SBFingerProjection”.
You can add the following section using something such iBrickr:
SBFingerProjection
-10

Seems like every time I install fring, the next day something flaky happens to the touch screen. Everything was mint, installed fring, 2 days later started to act up, hardware reset and re-jailbroken, all is fine. Reinstall fring… same thing again even unremoved. Then all fixed with a restore. Ver 1.14 Ziphone 3.x area affected “send” in SMS area across the screen

I have a friend who has a dead bottom strip, I helped him to change the sensitivity and the big buttons in the dock are responding well. The trouble is that when we enter in some app like iPod, the buttons for Songs, Podcasts, etc… are smaller and the sensitivity hack does not work here, i think that buttons are out of range there.
So I was thinking about some way to make that buttons bigger, I wonder if there is any XML file that we can change in order to make it taller and be reached touching the strip abobe who is alive or has increased it sensitivity.
I’ll work on it to provide a hack… but any help is welcome.

180 usd pffffff or another iphone? the problem is that in Apple don´t sell any more of this, and the new 3G will be more difficult to obtain, only with a contract ant an activated in a store (Apple or ATT)
Yes, there is some places on the Web that will sell to you a replacement screen with a video and all to make the repair. It’s an option to make your iphone like new… and now that the 3G iPhone will appear on stores, the prices of this first generation iPhone parts must drop, maybe we can repair it. Or get a 3G iPhone instead for almos the same price.
Do not worry for the 3G iPhone, Zibri and others are already working on it… and I think that if all the peple collaborate, we will be able to unlock it and find a way to hack it very soon.
Going back to the dead strip problem (I would like to say… a challenge) I think it is very possible to make the buttons bigger with some software hack. I’ll have the SDK already and I’ll try to do a sample app with bigger bottom buttons.

I’ve had my iphone for about 8 months now. It’s unlocked, jailbroken and updated to firmware 1.1.4. I used Ziphone 3.0 for Windows to unlock and activate it. I few weeks ago I had the touch screen issue, It was getting hard to slide the unlock bar at the startup screen, but it would work sometimes after shutting down and turning it on again. Then yesterday the whole screen stopped working, it would not respond to any touch at all!
I was sure it was a hardware problem and I would have to throw my iphone away – since i’m not in US and the warranty is void due to the unlock.
But I read this post, and using IPHONE PC SUITE on Windows (great app!), i could backup my files such as contacts, memos and so on, edit the touch.plist file and changed the “3.5” vallue to “-10” . Voilá, after reebotting the phone the screen became operable again. Hope it will last for a while now.
I haven’t tried any other vallue, but -10 is working fine.
By the way, I did not have to add the Touch Sensivity option on Settings, since I would never be able to reach it as my screen was fully inoperable. So, editing the TOUCH.PLIST and changing the “3.5” vallue does it!
I Believe it’s the easiest way to do it MANUALLY if you don’t have any response from the touch screen at all!

Can someone send me a working general.plist file for ver. 1.1.4? I tried all links in this forum, copied files using WinSCP and I can’t see my “general” options in the menu anymore. I click on “General” tab in settings and I’m getting blank window on my IPhone.
I meantime, I accidentally deleted original general.plist file. I need a working one to restore it.

I know there are a bunch of other apps available for either mac an pc. The only one I’ve ever tried was the IPHONE PC SUITE for windows. And I can tell it’s awesome, it gives you full control of the phone, incluinding editting .plist files on notepad. It converts automatically and then you just upload to the phone.
If your phone was unlocked using Ziphone 3.0, as was mine, the access is straight using PC SUITE, really easy.
.. i just downloaded iphone PC suite and it doesnt work, can anyone please post step by step instructions of how to do this .. i am lost and confused.. how do you change the notepad script to actually modify the iphone.. i will paypal 20$ to the person that sends me correct instructions lol… and if it works.. pplease help

Alright i am pretty nub to this kind of stuff but I was able to get this on my iphone and unluckily mine is a hardware problem :[.
I am runnin on 1.0.2firmware.
What you guys need to do is download that IphonePCsuite.
This is how it worked for me.
Download the 1.0.2. general.plist file and save it somewhere on your desktop it does not really matter, as long as you can find it when you want it.
Through iphonepcsuite, you will want to go to
FILES through the interface
APPLICATIONS
PREFERENCES.app
GENERAL.PLIST [when you get to this one, right click, and press UPLOAD.
Now browse for the file we were talking about earlier that you have download [general.plist modified version].
VIOLA!! after you uploaded it you will good to go. Also i figured out you can edit the Touch.plist by downloading it to your computer and set the 3.5 [sensitivity] to -10. Do the exact same thing we did earlier except save a version of the modified touch.plist to your computer and upload the same we did awhile ago to touch.plist.
Instead of being able to adjust the sensitivity from 0-16 [or whatever the hell it is] you will now be able to adjust from -10 to i believe 16.

Oscar: Alright man, here’s the deal, the iPhone 3G really isn’t cheaper. It is actually more expensive than the current model. It is just at a subsidized price. Meaning that you will get a $20 increase in your monthly bills. No the quality won’t likely be lower. (Their reputation can’t afford it) No, Apple hasn’t made any adjustments in any of the firmwares. Don’t count on it.
