Are you one of the many people who is having problems with your touchscreen on the iPhone? Hack you hacked your iPhone, unlocked your iPhone, or a non AT&T customer? Now that Apple’s warranty requires you to have an AT&T phone number to get your iPhone replaced or repaired, how do you fix your touchscreen problem?
There are a few options for you at the moment. You can purchase replacement parts, virginize your iPhone and try to return it, or modify your phone even more to try and fix the problem.If you are experiencing a touchscreen issue you can edit the sensitivity of your touch screen to make your iPhone more responsive. You simply need to replace your general.plist file with a modified version found here:

You will need to overwrite your general.plist located in Applications/preferences.app
The default sensitivity on the iPhone’s touchscreen is 3.5. You have the option to set it from 0-16, where 0 is the most sensitive. Recently I have had a few issues with my touchscreen and applied this modification and everything is working 10x better.
This hack may work for the majority of iPhone users, but there may be a few that will need to replace their LCD completely.
You add the code below to the General.plist:

Yost edited the General.plist file, for people who have a dead strip on the top of the screen, so that the touch option is now on the bottom right under “reset” under pref>general>touch.
(take out the “.” in the link in “rapid”)

I was able to restore my friend’s iPhone functionality of the bottom strip, now he got space bar, ipod button, etc…
And just in matter of minutes we got used to the new finger projection (means that you mus click a little upper that before).
You rock man!
And just for reporting my findings… I used ibrickr 8 on vista to upload the files and just restart, change the touch setting to just -0.2 and its works. thanks a lot

ok ive been reading these posting and i cant seem to get my iphone to open up. I have a iphone 2g running 2.2 and jailbroken. now my touch screen is completely unresponsive.its is stuck in the slide to unlock screen. what program do i use to access the system files in my iphone thru usb connection.i can not acces wifi on iphone .I am running vista on my laptop. please help i hate looking at my iphone and its not working. thanks in advance
you can use iPhone Tunnel Suite 2.7 to access thru usb port
Javier do know were i can download iphone tunnel suite. i have downloaded the 2.7 beta and i receive and error message the program is unresponsive. also i got the slider to move and some of the apps in the home screen worked but the touch screen is reponding very slow very very slow
Sorry, I am not sure if it works under Vista. I had the same problem with my iphone, and use iphone tunnel suite (with XP) to access system files and replace touch and general.plist. and increase sensitivity. But I am not an expert and can’t help you with Vista….

On XP, .net frameworks have to be installed. And SSH activated on the iphone.

right, i got the two files edited it as i wanted it, i managed to get through my phone using winSCP, but i cant figure out were the files must go. if anyone could be kind enough to place the directory for me.
btw i don’t know if the directory has changed, but right now i am using 2.2.1 FW.

i can’t select phone,mail,safari and ipod yesterday,and after reading your post here and playing with the settings of touch.plist i had figure it out!my best settings are -20.0 but still i cant select the space bar or change to nummerious keyboard…and after someone calls u and hangs up,you cant select the keyboard to continue making calls…i had make a hard-reset but its nit solving the problem…its a good option for someone who dont have the money to change the display of the iphone but you must change it if you want to have your iphone like in the beginning….

read 387 and use 404 files. to transfer files in iphone use ibrickr 9. it wil solve your prb. its solved mine with 2.2 version of iphone 2g
Here is my story: I had refurb 2G model. I never activated it for AT&T and unlocked it to use with Tmobile. After few months of use had issue with bottom two rows. Tried everything from this link but was able make only one stripe working. Bottom stripe was not working no matter what you do. Finally I gave up and was not using phone for last 2-3 months. Yesterday while reading FAQ on apple site found page where it says, if your iphone has touch screen problem, take it to apple store and they will repair/replace phone even it is out of warranty. I restored phone to factory settings and took printout of web page and showed it to apple service engineer. Phone was out of warranty from last 5-6 months. Initially they were not ready to replace as phone was never activated. But as soon as I showed printout from apple, they replaced my phone with new one. So do not waste your time trying to make it work go to apple store and get it replaced.
has anyone done this using VISTA. I have a 2G iphone with 2.2 and it is hacked. now my screen has completly stopped working SO I CANT SSH.can any one share a link for a usb program that will connect my iphone to my comp and work with vista if not vista what about xp

For those that have 2.2.1 and need the General.plist ready:

Easy instructions:
– Update your firmware to 2.2.1
– Use QuickPwn to unlock, jailbreak
– Run Cydia, install OpenSSH
– Disable the autolock feature from iPhone
– Activate WiFi connection and note iPhone IP
– Open Filezilla (FTP client on your computer) and make a new connection as SFTP, put the iPhone IP and use “root” as username and “alpine” as password.
– Change the path to “/Applications/Preferences.app/”
– Drag & Drop the General.plist (you need to extract the zip) to that folder, replacing the one that’s there.
– Reboot iPhone and then on Settings>General you will see a new item – Touch
– Decrease the value to 0 (most sensitive)
– Enjoy your screen again 😀

Folks, Great news! I just got my iPhone replaced by Apple though it was almost 2 years old and out of warranty. Got a brand new one (I hope)

How did you get apple store to replace your iphone. Mine has a dead strip on top and I brought it to apple and they said it out of warranty. I will have to buy a new one 🙁 Did you get show them the link where it said Apple will replace iphone with dead strip. Please send me link if so.
