New iPhone 3G S Screen Fingerprint-Resistant & MobileMe “Find My iPhone” Live!

June 10th, 2009 · Apple, Applications, iPhone

Hey everyone, well this was not only not offocially announced at WWDC, but it seems that it was announced on Apple’s website. It seems that the iPhone 3G S’ screen wasn’t (the rumored) OLED screen that many people wanted, but rather the same screen, but with a “fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating”. Fingerprint smudges on the iPhone’s screen have been a very annoying neusance since the day we first touched the screen, but it seems Apple has solved this issue as well in the new iPhone 3G S.

Apple also goes on to say that you should only clean the iPhone 3G S’ screen with a dry cloth, rather than with a moist, damp, cotton rag as used with all previous iPhone and iPod touch devices.

Now, on to MobileMe. As you may have remembered a mysterious “Find My iPhone” page popped up on 3.0 betas an was later confirmed by Phil at the WWDC keynote on Monday. So “Find My iPhone” allows you to remotely wipe it if it is stolen. It will beep very loudly (on silent mode or not) and begin wiping the iPhone clean.

Well it seems Apple has turned this feature on in MobileMe. So if you are a developer or managed to get a copy of the Gold Master version of iPhone OS 3.0 (build number 7A341) and have a paid $99 MobileMe subscription then try it out (or if you don’t want to have to restore then, you know, don’t.)
