Apple PIMP Slaps Rogers

Ruined iPhone

Yep, you heard it here. Canadians rejoice, even though you haven’t sent in the petition and haven’t been jacked by Rogers, Apple can hear you all loud and clear. Over 51,000 wireless customers have signed a petition to get Rogers to lower their rates for the iPhone 3G. Rogers continues to ignore such a splash in the wireless world, but Apple has stood up and publicly spoken out against Rogers, by saying quote “..we here at Apple are disgusted with Rogers rates for the iPhone”.

Apple is not only speaking out about their disgust with Rogers, but they are also taking action. Apple has redirected all further shipments of the iPhone 3G to Europe, where the iPhone 3G is expected to do very very well. Also Apple is pulling all iPhone 3G’s from their Apple Stores in Canada, leaving Rogers and Fido with only 10 to 20 units per store. Which means that Rogers is finally getting what they deserve.

Does it really cost that much? Or are Canadians “over reacting”? As a matter of fact, they are not over reacting, they have to sign up for a 3 year contract, also they must first pay $199-$299 for the iPhone 3G itself, plus a minimum of $2,600! That is insane! $2,600 for a phone bill on a 3 year contract?! Rogers has the longest lasting plan of all of the 23 countries to launch the iPhone 3G on July 11th. Not only is the price horribly high, but you also have to look at what they give you, 150 minutes per month! And 400 megabytes of data. Their lowest plan is $60 plus you still have to pay them a system access fee of $6.95 per month.

So please, I still highly urge all of you to sign this petition, because even if you don’t live in Canada, if this works, we might be seeing a new movement and another chapter of the iPhone’s history. Not only are Rogers and Fido customers angry but, 600 of the wireless companies customers are willing to cancel their service. That’s amazing. So please sign the petition here to support the cause.
