Senator John Kerry To FCC: AT&T + Apple + Exclusive Contract = Unfair Market?

June 17th, 2009 · No Comments · Apple, iPhone

Yes everyone. It seems that senator John Kerry (2004 Democratic Presidential candidate & current senator) has spoken out on the AT&T + Apple relationship to, who other, than the FCC.

Senator John Kerry stated:

We ask that you examine this issue carefully and act expeditiously should you find that exclusivity agreements unfairly restrict consumer choice or adversely impact competition in the commercial wireless marketplace […] Whether exclusivity agreements are becoming increasingly prevalent between dominant wireless carriers and handset manufacturers.

So why now? Well, it seems that he and other Senators and House Representatives (both democrat and republican) agree that the exclusive (and possibly extended) AT&T + Apple contract is unfair to both the other carriers and the consumer.

I agree with Mr. Kerry’s statement and I fully support a termination of the exclusive AT&T + Apple contract. I agree it is not good for customers at all. Very high rates and crappy service. Also, Senator Kerry is also possibly implying that there might be some anti-trust lawsuits soon.

We will have to see. Apple should really listen to its customers and unlock the iPhone via a software update. In the mean time we will just have to use yellowsn0w and the upcoming ultrasn0w and hope that Apple doesn’t extend their contract with AT&T until 2010.
