BREAKING NEWS: Apple Recalling All iPhone 3G Wall Chargers

September 19th, 2008 · No Comments · Apple, Apple Store, iPhone

Breaking News: Alright guys, this one is very important, today Apple announced a complete recall of all wall chargers that shipped with the iPhone 3G or were purchased separately at a local Apple retail store or on Apple’s web site. The tiny new chargers are hazardous due to the fact that the metal prongs will snap off when plugged in.

This is an exact quote from Steve Jobs earlier today “Under certain conditions the new ultracompact Apple USB power adapter’s metal prongs can break off and remain in a power outlet, creating a risk of electric shock” No injuries have been reported as of yet, but Apple is not taking any chances on this one, in fear of even more bad publicity.

Apple is telling everyone with that kind of charger to immediately stop using the charger for major safety reasons. Apple is starting a mail-in exchange program and a walk-in echange program in all Apple retail stores starting on October 10, 2008. I encourage and urge each and every one of you to take that opportunity to swap your defective chargers for new ones.

This is the first recall for the iPhone, which Apple launched in June 2007 and then relaunched in its current 3G form on July 11 of this year. No chargers are affected from any 1st generation iPhone. Now Apple, don’t tell me that you are going to recall my new iPod touch huh? Well, I guess that would be good, my iPod basicaly overheats or heats up when charging or when using the speaker, oh well…Apple Store here I come…
