Have you unlocked your phone and noticed that the volume is very low? Audio has been a problem on the iPhone up until firmware v 1.1.1 which apple seemed to address in the update, but not everyone is able to upgrade to 1.1.1 yet. Below is a guide to increase your volumes just like the 1.1.1 firmware update.
Things you’ll notice:
1). DialPad is louder
2). Speaker, Ringtone, Headset, Receiver, Speakerphone volumes are noticeable.
3). System Sounds are louder
4). YouTube video sounds are louder
Test Experiment: (Thanks stlcaddie and ReVan)
If you want to see a difference download beatphone.app listen to the pads with the volume all the way up and then apply the modded files. Now go back to the beatphone.app and listen to how loud the pads are now.
Install Instructions:
1). Download this file: iPhone Volume Fix
UPDATED file: iPhone Volume Fix with softer dialpad
2). Copy the com.apple.celestial.plist file to /var/root/Library/Preferences (Delete the two files FIRST don’t just copy them onto the phone and select the option of overwrite.)
3). Copy the SystemSoundMaximumVolume.plist file to /System/Library/Frameworks/Celestial.framework/
4). Goto Settings > iPod > (switch off: Sound Check)
5). Reboot your iPhone.
UPDATE: If you do not notice a difference try:
1). Download
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1SHSE3IF
put it into: private/var/preferences
2.) Reboot

Alexis // Oct 29, 2011 at 9:23 AM
CLEARLY you are a genius.. A sincere thank you from me and all the assholes who couldn’t think to take the plastic of the fucking speaker.
Mike // Nov 5, 2011 at 7:39 AM
A sincere thankyou! Taking the plastic off worked for me. I was waiting to be sure everything worked before I removed it just in case I had to return it. Everyone elses solution about downloading a fix etc was a load of bull shit. You’d think with recwnt versions of the IPhone Apple would have fixed any issues with the volume.
jaime // Oct 8, 2011 at 4:27 AM
you have to have a program. On windows iphonebrowser or iphone explorer, or on the actual iphone ifile. that is where u can get into the file system.

Jon if you are using windows you should use winscp. you can find a guide: https://limitededitioniphone.com/guide-jailbreakactivateunlock-virgin-iphones-v111-windows/

Great the fix works 🙂 always good work by you guys 🙂
Muyizo // Jan 16, 2008 at 12:23 PM
Hey guys,
Don’t have to upgrade. I had the same problem when my iphone had very low volume and the speaker would not even work when playing the ipod without the ear phone. All i did was, hold down the power button and the volume button (the top one that increases the volume) held it till the phone asked me to slide to power off. while still holding both power button and volume button, used my second hand to slide the power off button. I realesed the buttons but noticed that the iphone would not go off quickly and the screen was blank. waited for a bit and believed it was doing something which it actually did. it finally powered off and when i tried powering it up again it would not come on, waited for 3 mins then tried again. it came on and i tried the ipod on it and the speaker was functioning and pretty loud. using the ear phone with it was even better, its now louder than any phone i have ever had. lol! hope this helps but at your own risks!! any questions email me at muyizo@yahoo.co.uk. cheers guys.
Brian // Feb 3, 2008 at 2:58 AM
I tried this and it did nothing. Both fixes. Used a Sound meter. My speaker with meter up against it is blowing 80-84db before and after changes.
Ted // Feb 13, 2008 at 11:37 PM
My phone is 3 mo old. Latest everything. Iam hearing impaired. I MISS calls constantly. Does Apple plan a fix? OR should I sue under Americans with Disabilities Act? I do not want to jailbreak the phone and destroy any warranty.
Kris // Feb 25, 2008 at 9:59 AM
Thanks muyizo, it works for me. Now I can use it like a NORMALphone….

XLNC // Apr 17, 2008 at 3:39 PM
hey Zak and iphonelover download winSCP for wireless SSH-ing for windows and follow the instructions…
its quite simple actually… but the sad thing is it isn’t working pretty well … although i sense an increase in volume… or may be i’m really optimistic…
Anyways thanks…

well i had the same problem, fantastic phone, used garage band to make ring tones from my own songs, and they are automatically imported into the ring tone section of itunes, which is a great, my only problem was i could barely hear anyone when i received a call, found this posting here, thought , plastics what a load of @£$%^& but i tried it any way, and what do you know, the volume on my iphone is great, so there is something in the it, but for some other people there is with out doubt a fault with some of the iphones released
Neil // Apr 27, 2008 at 2:27 AM
I am so embarrased, taking off the factory plastic covering worked for me 🙂
Eddie // Apr 27, 2008 at 6:49 PM

@ Neil
Thanks for that. I removed the plastic cover and the volume seems to be working just fine now. DOH! 🙂
Thai // Aug 26, 2011 at 10:29 AM
Thank you so much for the posts from friends on this board. After I cut off the section of the plastic screen protector that covered up the top heraing speaker and keep the rest to protect the screen it now work like a charm. What am I thinking? the plastic covered up the hearing speaker that is why the volumn is too low. DOH!
