Rumor Analysis: Leaked iPhone 3G S Matte Back Real After All?

June 10th, 2009 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Hey guys. Remember how an alleged iPhone 3G S back was leaked a few months ago? (and even a few days ago) Well upon further inspection you can clearly see serial numbers and FCC information on the leaked back.

Now as you all now know, the iPhone 3G S is exactly the same as the iPhone 3G (exterior wise). So what happened? Well remember how I said Apple had 3 prototypes of their new iPhone 3G S floating around? Well it seems Apple decided to go with the prototype that had the same exteriors as the current iPhone 3G.

As you can clearly see, the leaked matte case design was clearly marked with a new model number A1303 and FCC ID BCGA1303A. Based on the official records released yesterday, this FCC ID does correlate to the new iPhone 3G S. Look at this other image directly from the FCC:

So images leaked by an anonymous donor back in February and images leaked by anonymous donors in Hong Kong were infact real. Though it seems Apple decided to go with the look that “everybody loves”. Yeah right. I would love it more if it wasn’t a scratch magnet.

Also, I had also stated that Apple was in works of launching 2 new iPhones? Well, again. I was right, but it seems that Apple decided to go with the iPhone 3G S that you all saw in our WWDC 2009 coverage.

Now, as for the matte back prototype, it also had a black bezel, and if the back was real, then one can assume that the bezel was also real, right? Web sites had also ststed that they had the parts for the new iPhone 3G S for sale a few weeks before WWDC, which means Apple changed their minds on the very last second.

We may see the matte back in the next version of the iPhone, but for now that dream has died…
